My journey with my thyroid

Thyroids are such little glands that control/wreak havoc on everything. When running properly the thyroid gland controls your metabolism, support growth & development, basically it regulates most body functions.

The past 12 months has been a rollercoaster ride with my thyroid. I along with my family genetics have suffered from a hypothyroid meaning it’s under performing. No matter the exercise or healthy eating I had done the weight just piles on and my energies felt depleted.

I cannot express how much I took this gland for granted during my early adulthood. Before my 30’s I ate and drank whatever I wanted. I could wake up with a hangover and hike the chief or run a good 10km. These days I can barely sum up enough energy to walk to the gym!

My biggest concern this past year has been my ability to start a family.

This past summer I had swapped from natural bovine dessicated thyroid medication to the synthetic synthroid in hopes that my internal systems would be corrected. I went from being hypo to hyper in a matter of months and now my doctor suspects I may have polycystic ovarian syndrome (another hormone issue).

It has been an uphill battle with this gland, one that I’m making public in hopes that maybe it can help someone else? Or maybe it’ll just help me make sense of it all by having it all written down.
